Prizes, Awards, and Team Scores

Prizes

Winners in each Division

The top five teams in The Beginner’s, Regular, Thinks Faster Than Walks and Master’s Division receive prizes: the first place team gets a cake in the shape of a key, and the four runner-up teams each get a bottle of champagne and an award certificate.

In addition, we award highly coveted prizes for best-named and best-dressed teams. The competition for these is quite fierce so step up your game!

Special Awards & Contests: Team Names

We encourage creative naming of teams. To reward that effort, we offer two different awards for best team names in pun and noir categories. Prizes are awarded to the top five team names in each category. In the event that more than one team chooses a winning name, the award goes to the team that registered first. (You register your team name when you buy your tickets).

About the Jayson Wechter "I Never-Met-a-Pun-I Didn't Like Award"

The Jayson Wechter "I Never-Met-a-Pun-I Didn't Like Award" is given to the teams with the cleverest names, which are often related to the year of the Chinese zodiac. 2012 is the Year of the Dragon (but “Dragon Asses” was used in 2000 and isn’t eligible this time around). If your pun refers to something that might be obscure, please include an explanation of the reference so we won’t overlook it.

Past winners include:

In 2011, Year of the Rabbit: Take the Bunny & Run; The Warren Commission; Don't You Want Some Somebunny to Love?; O Brother, Hare Art Thou?; Bay Area Rabbit Transit.

In 2010, The Year of the Tiger: ...But I Tigress; Black Eyed Paws: I Gotta Feline; Bright Lights, Big Kitty; Fangs for the Memories; Irritable Growl Syndrome

In 2009, The Year of the Ox: Apocalypse Cow; Bar-Ox Obama And Joe Bison 2012; Cattle Stars Galactica; Don’T Ox Don’T Tell; Random Ox Of Kindness; Team Parrot-Oxes; Think Outside The Ox; This Pun Is Ox-Idental; Ox Tale Snoops; Just The Yaks, Ma’Am; The Bull-Ettes; I Herd It Through The Bovine; and 2009’s one-time-only “Best Oxymoronic Team Name” went to Oxymorons

In 2008, The Year of the Rat: Tai Cheese; Ethyl Vermin; Rat@2E; Ratters Guild of American (On Strike Just in Vermin Plaza); Subprime Interest Rats. 2008 also saw a special award for Best Palindrome Name: Oozy Rat In A Sanitary Zoo

In 2007, The Year of the Boar: I Never Sausage A Team; Bacon it to the Streets; Days of Swine & Roses; Hog Day Afternoon; Born to Swill

In 2006, The Year of the Dog: Rex Marks the Spot; Dogged Pursuit; Ni Howl; Asta La Vista, Baby; Spay it Again, Sam.

In 2004, The Year of the Monkey: We are the Chimp-ions; And Darwinners Are; Apes of Wrath; Marmoset Said There'd Be Days Like These; The Counts of Monte Frisco; Monkey See, Monkey Deux; Thelonius Monkeys

In 2003, The Year of the Ram (or Goat): Insufficient Ram; Shearluck Holmes; Goateam.

In 2002, the Year of the Horse: The Hoof Hearted; Those Opposed Who Say Neigh; Glueless; Hoarse Whisperers; The Neighsayers

Two prizes will be awarded for the best dressed teams, one for the team with a theme related to the year of the Chinese calendar (again, 2011 is the Year of the Hare), and one for any sort of costume. We will be taking photos on site the day of the hunt. Alternatively, teams may submit photos of themselves in their costumes (attach your photo to an email and send to (address will be posted here before the Hunt) - one photo per email). Please don’t forget to include your contact info (or Flickr ID) in the email body so we can reach you. HOWEVER, in order to be considered for an award, teams must be present at the beginning of the Hunt in their costumes.

Winners in this category will have their photos posted on the Treasure Hunt website. Take a look at our Flickr photo set with all the Costume Contest entrants. And for those who missed out - read your packets! We put a note in there stating that photos would be taken up front by the podium...
